Evidence Based Practice for Clinicians (QUANTITATIVE) – How to find the best research evidence to guide your clinical practice In-Person

LOCATION: Canberra Hospital - CHS Library Training Room, Building 4, Level 1 

Bringing your own laptop is highly desirable.  

Are you wondering about the best treatment options for your patient?  Would you like to refresh your skills on how to search databases to find quality information? Do you want to learn more about what makes a paper high quality and how to use the findings to guide your practice? If so, this workshop is for you! This session is suitable for healthcare workers from any clinical background and will focus on quantitative research methods investigating the effect of interventions.  

This workshop is a collaboration between the CHS Library and Office of Research and Education, this session will be facilitated by a librarian with expertise in systematic literature searching and Rosalyn Stanton, a clinician, researcher and educator.

By the end of this session you will be able to:  

  • Formulate a PICO question and design an effective search strategy  

  • Understand how to critically appraise quantitative studies on effect of interventions  

  • Interpret results and determine clinical significance 

  • Derive clinical implications from the research and apply to practice.
