Databases: Hints and tips for effective searching In-Person
This is a hands on session, where you will explore the importance of databases to access reliable and peer reviewed sources to inform your research project. You will have the opportunity to conduct your own search with the support of our librarians.
By the end of this session, you will feel confident in:
- knowing how to locate the databases available on the CHS Library & Multimedia website
- understanding evidence based practice and the use of models like PICO for research
- understanding what a Boolean search is and why we use them in database searches
- refreshing your knowledge of search term and keyword creation and use in database searching
- knowing what a search filter is and how to use these to tailor your search being familiar with Advanced Search options
- using systematic search methods to ensure you find exactly what you need
- knowing how to find your way around a database record and retrieve an item conducting your own searches
